Your Flood Risk May Have Changed: Get the Facts and Dont Be Caught Off Guard Lafayette Parish has had four official Flood Insurance Rate Maps (called FIRMs). When reviewing the map, note that locations where the flood hazard area is being reduced are shown in blue and locations where the flood hazard area is being increased are shown in red. Waukesha County's portion of the preliminary flood maps for the Milwaukee River Watershed are now available. ![]() This is in addition to FEMA’s digital FIRM data and flood maps georeferenced by EDAC for the 10 counties in which FEMA has only provided hard copy FIRMs. The updated maps show some areas where the flood zone impact is being reduced and other areas where the flood zone impact is being increased. The site includes status maps for FEMA flood mapping, new and/or updated mapping being developed under FEMA’s Risk MAP program, and LiDAR topographic mapping initiatives. On May 14, 2021, the City lodged a comprehensive community appeal regarding FEMAs Preliminary Coastal. The updated maps are the result of a study of the Owl Creek corridor by the United States Corp of Engineers. The FEMA appeals submission period is now closed. Adoption of the updated maps is a requirement for the City to maintain compliance with the FEMA Flood Hazard Insurance Program which allows affected property owners to purchase flood insurance. The City of Brentwood is in the process of adopting new flood zone maps for properties along Owl Creek in east Brentwood as required by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). ![]()
